Custodial Nursing

As a strong advocate for hospital avoidance, Pop-Up Health – in partnership with SA Government departments – implemented a program in custodial facilities across metropolitan Adelaide for nurses to treat and manage the health of detainees in police custody. Pop-Up Health Registered Nurses are stationed within the custodial complexes where they assess and treat detainees and police officers as required.

Other services provided by the nurses include conducting forensic procedures and taking of blood samples in accordance with relevant legislation.

This innovative program has proven results in reducing attendance at hospital emergency departments and in saving significant hours of police involvement in the management of the health and wellbeing of detainees.
